01 / Why Ethiopia · Guji, Ethiopia
Coffee was first found growing wild in Ethiopia’s highland forests, and it grows wild there still. Farmers tend thousands of heirloom varieties found nowhere else. Before Guji, Suke Quto or a medium roast, there was one simple choice: begin where coffee began.

1,800–2,200 m
High in the Guji highlands. Cool nights and warm days let cherries ripen slowly, as sweetness builds inside the bean.
Under native shade
A forest, a farmer and 150 neighboring families. Coffee grows in small plots beneath the canopy, tended with pesticide-free practices.
02 / The land
Guji, Ethiopia
In the Guji highlands, coffee and forest share the same ground. After fires damaged the surrounding land, Tesfaye Bekele saw a way to help it regenerate: grow coffee beneath native shade trees, creating a livelihood that gave the forest a future. Suke Quto grew from that conviction. At this height, cool nights slow the cherries’ ripening, giving sweetness time to build inside them.
03 / The people
Tesfaye’s work is rooted in a simple understanding: the future of this land and the future of its people belong together.
More than 150 neighboring families grow coffee alongside him. They tend small farms of their own, with vegetables and cattle beside the coffee, and bring their ripe cherries to his washing station. Every bag begins with their work.
Good coffee begins long
before the first pour.
04 / What grows alongside
Exceptional coffee never exists in isolation. Around Suke Quto, its story reaches beyond the farm, into the lives and hopes of the wider community.
Learning, close to home
The village school began as one mud-walled room, where children sat on the floor. Tesfaye poured a cement floor and, with buyers of his coffee, began a project to renew local schools—supporting a new wing and library at Kurume and new classrooms at Suke.
It is a chapter in this origin’s history that we are proud to share, and a reminder to look beyond what is in the cup.
From their hands to your morning
Citrus up front. Cherry and peach through the middle. Cream at the finish. A medium roast, chosen so the origin stays in the cup.
